The 1947 crash in the New Mexico desert that become legendary among UFO fans and conspiracy theorists turns out to have been nearly as strange a visit by an alien spaceship. Long after the Cold War ended, observers continue to report a pattern of UFO activity near missile silos and other nuclear weapons sites. Perhaps it is not surprising that two subjects —nuclear war and alien invasion—should be linked.

Although cosmologically, a mere blink of the eye, the USA celebrates the anniversary of the Apollo 11 Mission marking Neil Armstrong’s first walk on the moon. Meanwhile, China quietly explores  the mysterious  lunar farside, laying the foundation for the human species’ first moonbase and a radio telescope that will provide an unfettered window on the universe.

“The Magnetic Cosmos” –A New Way to Detect Dark Matter

“We still don’t know what dark matter is,” said John Terning, professor of physics at UC Davis, one of two theoretical physicists at the University of California, Davis who have a new candidate for dark matter, and a possible way to detect it. They presented their work June 6 at the Planck 2019 conference in Granada, Spain. “The primary candidate for a long time was the WIMP, but it looks like that’s almost completely ruled out.”

ESO “First Light” –Imaging a Large Habitable Planet Orbiting Alpha Centauri

“NEAR is the first and currently only project that could directly image a habitable exoplanet. It marks an important milestone. Fingers crossed — we are hoping a large habitable planet is orbiting Alpha Cen A or B” commented Olivier Guyon, lead scientist for Breakthrough Watch, about the newly-built planet-finding instrument installed on the Very Large Telescope, Chile, as it begins a 100-hour observation of nearby stars Alpha Centauri A and B.
