Nobody is quite sure what’s going on at the Sunspot Solar Observatory in New Mexico, reports Science, which was quickly and mysteriously evacuated on 6 September amid reports of a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) probe, and has remained closed. The manager of the mountaintop site, the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA), released a statement saying the observatory “will remain closed until further notice due to an ongoing security concern.”
Did the observatory record a spacecraft or object near the sun, or a massive power-grid-busting geo-magnetic solar storm? We debated whether to title this video From the Farside or From the X Files, as both seemed appropriate. The narrator of conspiracy website, SecureTeam 10, suggests a massive alien object was recorded passing over the sun in NASA’s Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) imagery. The potential clues appear to be the observatory’s proximity and in line-of-sight to Roswell and Area 51 and the White Sands Missile Base.
