NASA Observes Remnants of Ancient Poles & Equator on Saturn’s Enceladus–“May Have Tipped Over in Distant Past”

Saturn's icy, ocean-bearing moon Enceladus may have tipped over in the distant past, according to recent research from NASA's Cassini mission. Researchers with the mission found evidence that the moon's spin axis — the line through the north and south poles — has reoriented, possibly due to a collision with a smaller body, such as an asteroid.

Ancient Sea Creature Discovered Off Coast of Scotland — “Reveals How Evolution Formed the Modern Brain”

An ancient sea creature, discovered off the coast of Scotland in 2011, has shed new light on how evolution formed the modern brain. An international team of scientists have examined the amphioxus, also known as the Lancelet, which was thought to be a brainless, faceless fish. Instead, they found it has a very complex brain which confounds previous understanding of how vertebrate brains evolved.

Eclipse of Distant Star “Caused By Giant Ringed Planet 50 Times Size of Jupiter”

Giantringedp

A giant gas planet – up to fifty times the mass of Jupiter, encircled by a ring of dust – is likely hurtling around a star more than a thousand light years away from Earth, according to new research by an international team of astronomers, led by the University of Warwick. Hugh Osborn, a researcher from Warwick's Astrophysics Group, has identified that the light from this rare young star is regularly blocked by a large object – and predicts that these eclipses are caused by the orbit of this as-yet undiscovered planet.

Some Astronomers Suggest: “A Strange, Unknown Supermassive Object May Exist At The Heart of Almost All Galaxies”

Supermassive black holes are thought to lie at the heart of almost all galaxies. But some theorists suggest that there's something else there instead—not a black hole, but an even stranger supermassive object that has somehow managed to avoid gravitational collapse to a singularity surrounded by an event horizon. The idea is based on modified theories of General Relativity, Einstein's theory of gravity.

Mars Curiosity-Mission Gale Crater Discovery –“Once Harbored a Lake with Drinkable Water”

“Gale crater once held a lake with water that we would even have been able to drink, but we still don’t know how long this habitable environment” endured, said Jens Frydenvang, a scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory and the University of Copenhagen. ” What this finding tells us is that, even when the lake eventually evaporated, substantial amounts of groundwater were present for much longer than we previously thought—thus further expanding the window for when life might have existed on Mars.”
