Japan’s Space Center Evacuates: Quake Halts Nation’s Physics and Space Activities

In addition to the human tragedy and the ongoing nuclear crisis, news has started trickling out on how the quake has affected science facilities in Japan. Japan's Tsukuba Space Center, about 50 kilometres northeast of Tokyo, has been evacuated due to earthquake damage, Discovery News reports. The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) normally uses the centre to control its Kibo laboratory (image), which is part of the International Space Station.
